        i. Defensive Asylum: A defensive application for asylum occurs when you request asylum as a defense against removal from the United States. For asylum processing to be defensive, you must be in removal proceedings in immigration court with the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). Individuals can be placed into defensive asylum in a different ways.

         ii. Cancellation of Removal: Cancellation of Removal is an immigration benefit where permanent and nonpermanent resident in the U.S. may apply to an immigration judge to adjust their status from deportable alien to one lawfully admitted in the United States. If certain conditions are met and if successful, the alien will be considered as lawfully admitted for permanent residence.

         iii. Withholding under CAT: Convention Against Torture (CAT) is the third form of relief available to an individual fearing persecution. This option is vital for those who are unable to qualify for asylum or cancellation of removal
